My girlfriend and I end up chillin most of the lazy Saturday, saving out energy up for Box Of Dub, tonight’s instalment of heavyweight Dubstep beats in Electrowerkz, Angel tube stop, north London. A swift tube ride from Balham all the way to Angel…what a treat! We finish our biff, and tall cans of Heineken, while meeting up with some youngster from Ramadanman’s label (if i remember correctly), and make our way into the club. After a not so thorough search, we enter the club and get our guest list stamps. The front entrance room is packed with what look like Londonian hipsters (middle class kids wearing those thin white sailor shoes….and spiky or funny hair).

Its amazing to see that the night attracted a wide variation of attendees, including some goth headz, new wave web 2.0 blogger heads and the traditional Dubstep crew.

As we arrive Cotti was smashing his beats out, wounding the crowd sub sonically! I heard the occasional beat from Cluekid (the frog sound), so I was assuming it was Cotti up behind the 1′s and 2′s.

We head out for a smoke with Boomnoise, Alex Incyde, Stanton, Hatcha and his friend.

Next up were the dons themselves, Kode 9 & Spaceape….or as Boomy says “Kuuude Noine”. These two absolutely smashed the dance up! Kode dropping all the 16 bit stuff was pretty epic, skeng, poison dart vip (i think) and the Kode 9 16 bit remix of that tune from the Japanese artist, Quarta330. All in all this was the set of the night for me!! What a sound this guy resonates, with the likes of MC Spaceape on the mic spitting low toned verbal lyrics over the beat and basslines.

Skream stepped up next playing some tearing riddims! His typeical “Skream” sound, but nonetheless heavy as fuck! From what I heard and know of, he played some new beats alongside some of his anthem smashers…all in all a superb set….full of energy and kept the crowd jumping and hollering!

Back in the bar room now, we check Mala from Digital Mystikz and his personal MC Sgt. Pokes. Boy…what a riot! They both end up breaking into the main room and getting up on stage for their set….

By this time its like 3:30 am and im tired as hell…..no more beer, no drugs (please) and no energy! We get a chicken fillet burger from the shitty hole in the wall across the street and make our way back to Palace via the LONG night bus service which in London is a main part of a clubbers life. I’m even tempted into making a series called “The night bus missions”, as they are always an epic journey of great proportions traveling across the vibrant city and ending up home around 5 am. Just in time to shut the curtains and get to sleep before the sun starts to beam in through the cracks and beat down on life.

All in all it was a great night. A nice venue, sound could have been better, but im glad i brought my earplugs…beers were cheap, and the smoking area was spliff friendly…at least for us! I would say that the label and organization Soul Jazz is one im going to need to keep my eye on as they too are involved in cd collabs and compilations, and have some experience in the industry aswell as set up great nights and have a solid following of a variation of peoples and types. Sorry to the crew that got rolled up after the security thought they were smoking the Super Silver Haze x NL 5……which they weren’t smoking, but unfortunately got the blame for……so sorry! ;)
