As our crew, who is for the most part already semi drunk arrives to Mass in Brixton, we enter the club and i already hear the sub-bass flowing through my body and vibrating my chest cavity. Absolutely amazing! We make it up the stairs, which seemed like they went on forever and ended up in the top room where the DMZ boys had things in full swing.
First thigs first…THANK GOD i didnt forget my earplugs!
I believe when we got there that one of the residents was on….great tunes, and had a very smooth style of mixing beats into one another.

Next up was ClueKid with a solid “star trek” themed intro….the crowd loved this and were all throwing up the Mr Spok sick (4 fingers up split in the middle). Cluekid i actually met in person on the trainride back home to Milton Keynes, but nonetheless…i was very impressed by his tune selection and the flow he was pushing to the crowd, who obviously responded likewise.

Goth Trad, direct from Japan stepped up and started to plug his bits in for the live show he was about to display. Really good….especially for it being live! Nice beats, but his style seemed to be a little bit more technoish and mechanical (if thats the right word for it) that the rest of the DJ’s id heard so far. Great skills, mixing was on point….and assuming from the crowd reaction….his tunes were large!

Next the beat surgeon Kode 9 + his MC SpaceApe graced the decks. Ive heard a few of his bits back at Georgie’s pad, but seeing him live was trulty amazing. What a spectrum of sound…and his MC truly made the setting. Harsh rolling bassy beats…i think Georgie and I danced through his whole set….really really amazing and had bare VIP’s which rocked! My second favorite set of the night!!

DMZ founders Digital Mystics (Mala) and Loefah stepped up next and rocked the what i can compare as the classic dubstep sound. Their sound is what i had in my head as to what the sound “Dubstep” was….or at least knew before my first experience. Crisp mixing with what seemed like a selection of crowd pleasers mixed with the odd dub.

If im not mistaken i think Plastician was up next. Now this was a real treat…he was tearing out the Dubstep riddims with a flow of what sounded like “west coast” gangster rap MC’in over the top….this was by far my most favorite act of the night, as i could relate to the sound he was pushing. The most vocal based of all the sets the whole night, and seemed to just hit the spot!! Would love to see him again or link up a mp3 from the man himeslf. Most def my favorite set of the night!!!!
Last up was the DOTS (Drumz of the South) resident, OneMan. He tore out a grimey, breakbeat, dubby set which really got the crowd jumpin and back onto the dancefloor….even may it be 5 am! I only saw about half an hour of his set before we decided to call it a night and get some chicken and ribs with Bailey before we head home.
All in all….this being my first Dubstep experience i must admit that it was quite an experience. My flatmate Mark came along aswell, and this was his first actual rave! I gotta give him props for enduring the whole night listening to demented beats with twisted freaks! Im deffinately a new fan of Dubstep, but know for next time that a mid day nap will be needed it im to dance the night away with Georgie!
*my appoligies for not crediting the photographers, as i just Google’d the artists names, but please feel free to contact me if you are, or know who i should give credit to!!
