Human Zoo Festival
![]()
Human Zoo is a new and exciting electronic music and arts festival for the East of England that aims to bring a friendly and intimate house party feel infused with a sprightly summer festival vibe. The three day outdoor party sees three music tents, hosted by the award winning club brand Spectrum, London’s warehouse sensation Slaang and Leeds institution Technique, who will each provide some of the UK’s and world’s most exciting and upfront live acts and DJs. The line up is as strong and varied as you’ll see for a small scale festival in its first year, and encompasses some of today’s best electronic advocates, from deep house and techno, over to drum and bass, breaks, beats, hip-hop, electro, not forgetting a slice of indie, folk and jazz, and so much more across three glorious days, nestled in the beautiful east of England, right between Cambridge and Ipswich, and only 45 minutes from London.
As well as the three main music arenas there will be an acoustic band stand, Spitfire air display, fireworks, entertainers, healing fields, children’s activities and entertainment, chill out tent, art gallery, saunas and hot tubs, Bedouin cinema and an art gallery all on a fantastic site just a couple of miles outside Bury St Edmonds in Suffolk, East Anglia. More details of exactly what will be happening in the arts festival side of Human Zoo will be coming shortly.
The first event for Human Zoo, originally conceptualized by teenagers Tom Notley and Dan Soler, has Pete Jordan (of Spectrum fame) curating the overall programming of the event, and together they feel they are the cusp of something special. With all other festivals in the UK having thrown their hats into the ring, so to speak, Human Zoo comes through a little late but all the better for it. Seeking to foster a new kind of festival environment, with as much music as there is traditional festival activity to engage in, Human Zoo represents a left of center philosophy far away from the more obvious events.
Wait for the reveiw as Mr DNBSPACE and myself will be attending. Expect some crazy stories and photos to come!

Global Gathering 2006
WOW ! This was a truly great festival….absolutely refreshing to see so many chilled out ravers enjoying themselves so much!
My friend Tom (Dj DEFine or http://www.djdefine.com) ended up going with the BBC 1xtra crew down to the Global Gathering. They had a smaller outdoor side tent going on, but there were enough sick beats coming outta the speakers!
First up doing the warmup set was some guy ive never heard of, but had a clean set, with some interesting beats. Next up was L Double with MC Rodney P, who TOTALLY smashed it. Pulling a variety of tricks out of his bag, not to name the countless VIP’s he was slipping in between, him and Rodney completely had the place buzzin. I gotta say this was my favorite set of the entire night.
Next flight graced the stage with MC Joker D, who at first brought the vibe right down, to start a more tech-step style dnb sound, which eventually led to some more darker tearouts & what sounded like some Metalheadz biz….absolutely smashing.
By this time “bar Bailey” was in full effect inside the BBC 1xtra tent, so there was no shortage of spliffs, vodka & cokes and plenty of bass. As Sappo and crew head on in, they are all welcomed by the BBC lot.
During Flights set we all (Double, Wrekka, Define & myself) checked out what the rest of GG had to offer. I discover this nice little mexican food stand which was servin up all kinds of Mexicano goodness….so that was like heaven for me, as a good burrito is fuckin hard to come by in these parts of Europe! For those of you that know me, you can almost gaurantee that this called for 2 burritos
There were about 7 massive tents from what i remember, with various music generes in each. The sound was astonishing, quality productions and a superb lineup!
After a heavy bombing of rain we decided to grab the record bags and head out of the party to go home.
This was a long day/night, but TOTALLY 100% worth it, as this was a party that was well worth checking out and reminded me of the good ole days back in southern california when raving was in its peak and the festivals simply rocked!

The UK’s music festival season is in full swing - and we want your reviews, photos and video from events across the country.
Glastonbury’s year off has not diminished festival-goers’ enthusiasm - old stagers like Reading, Leeds, V Festival and T in the Park are part of this year’s line up, while younger festivals like Belladrum, Green Man and Latitude are forging their own paths.
